Cryosphere Ceramics

This range of ceramic pieces is inspired by my work in the Arctic fjords of Norway and Svalbard. I was fortunate enough to spend three and a half years immersed in the world of fractured ice, working on the interactions between warming oceans and shrinking glaciers.

I was reminded everyday just how fragile these environments are to human influences. In my short time as a researcher the Arctic has warmed extremely rapidly and the way of life for people and animals in these regions has already been forced to change.

My work is an attempt to reconcile the melancholic thoughts and feelings that I hold for these most sacred and beautiful places and our place in the future amid the climate crisis. I want to promote thought about the Arctic environment into peoples daily life, both to reflect on the beauty that is being lost, and to perhaps galvanise a small movement of hope for the future.
